A total of 31 NPCC cadets and 4 teacher-officers went to Hong Kong from 11th-14th June 2007. I was anxious as this was my first overseas trip alone. Although travelling alone may seem scary, I learnt to be independent.
The place I liked the most was the tram ride up Victoria Peak. The scenery of Hong Kong was attractive and breath-taking. I have learnt the importance of concentration from the tour guide. Being able to focus on your work is necessary to succeed.
On the second day, we went to the Tsing Yi Police Station. I have learnt about many different weapons used by the Hong Kong Police Officers. I also got to know the cadets of Junior Police Call (JPC). They were very friendly and we discussed the different kinds of training we underwent. Their teachers gave us a souvenir and treated us to some snacks. I was delighted and excited when I actually visited the prison cells. It was scary and intimidating. After the visit, I told myself never to break any laws.
After the Police Station tour, we went to the Lutheran School for the Deaf. We put up a performance for the children, which included a Malay traditional dance, a Wushu display and an Indian hip-hop dance. We also gave them little gifts which we brought from Singapre. Although the children were deaf, they enjoyed our performance by showing the thumbs-up. Three secondary three girls, together with their vice-principal, brought us for a tour in the school. There were many art pieces in the school, showing their talent in the Arts.
The next morning, we went to the Police Museum. I found out that the first Women Police Contingent in Hong Kong was in 1951. This museum was filled with detailed information about the history of Hong Kong Police. There was a total of four galleries.
Following that, we visited Disneyland. My eyes were glued to the surroundings as this was my first visit. I tried the indoor roller coaster and was hooked on it. However, I decided to watch some shows, instead of wasting too much time on the roller coaster. I liked ‘The Golden Mickey’ most. It was a very grand show, similar to a play. Other than fun, I have learnt many things from Disneyland. I learnt that we should plan our time wisely. I should follow my heart and my dreams will come true. Tarzan also taught me that being a hero is to do things that you never dreamt that you can actually do it. On the other hand, we should know our limits too
This Hong Kong trip soon came to an end and I felt reluctant to leave. It was really fun-filled and I am looking forward to our next overseas trip.
